Editorial Announcement

Introducing Dr. Henry J. Baker as Editor-in-Chief

Timothy Boosinger, DVM, PhD

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is pleased to announce that effective December 24, 2007, Dr. Henry J. Baker, Professor Emeritus of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education (JVME).

Dr. Baker brings a wealth of experience and proven editorial skills to JVME. His extensive contacts within the veterinary, scientific, and publishing communities and his commitment to a close, cooperative working relationship with the JVME editorial board will provide the strong leadership the journal needs as it nears its fourth decade as the leader in veterinary medical education scholarship and research.

Professor Emeritus of the Department of Pathobiology and the Scott-Ritchey Research Center, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, Dr. Baker earned his DVM (cum laude) from Auburn University in 1960, interned at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, practiced in Florida, and was a Fellow in Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. He served on the faculties of Johns Hopkins University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Wake Forest University, as well as on the faculty at Auburn University as Professor of Pathobiology and Clinical Sciences, Scientist of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center, and a member of the Graduate Faculty from 1991 to 2007. From 1991 to 2005, he was Director of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center, a state-of-the-art interdepartmental and interdisciplinary research program dedicated to improving the health of dogs and cats. Dr. Baker's research interests include inherited neurological diseases of dogs and cats and contraceptive vaccines for humane animal population control.

Dr. Baker was a member of the editorial board of Laboratory Animal Science from 1981 to 1984 and Editor of that journal from 1984 to 1991. He has been an author, reviewer, editor, and chair of publications committees for a number of scientific organizations. Dr. Baker is committed to continuing the high quality of JVME in meeting the needs of the veterinary medical and higher education community, and we are extremely fortunate to have him overseeing the scholarly content and quality of this important publication.
